HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RACHAEL VOLZ!

Today’s Tidbits Birthday Girl is Rachael Volz, Owner & CEO of A Fare Extraordinaire and The Revaire. Each month we celebrate a local business owner on her special day.

Happy Birthday! How many candles are you blowing out this year?
41

How are you celebrating?
I am going to lunch with a dear friend and having dinner with my husband, Jason, and our sons, Oliver and George.

What’s on your birthday wish list?
I’m treating myself to a C02 facial laser with dermatologist Dr. Amanda Hassler and a pair of Chanel booties from modernMarla in Round Top. I love pre-loved pieces!

Speaking of celebrations, you are the owner and CEO of A Fare Extraordinaire and The Revaire. What’s the best part of your job?
Creating a rewarding, honest, and empowering work environment. Work doesn’t have to suck!

You started your career with A Fare Extraordinaire in 2005 as a receptionist before taking over as CEO and Owner in 2014. What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself in your nearly 20 years in the industry?
I have learned to listen, slow down, and be more calculated.

Three tips for hosting an unforgettable event?
1. Center the event around a theme. Even your favorite color and the season can be a theme, but you have to tie everything back to the story you are trying to tell.
2. Make sure you have cocktails AND mocktails for guests, and pre-batch them if you are able.
3. Always have plenty of food and space it out throughout the night so no one needs to drive through Whataburger on the way home!

Your go-to tricks when you’re hosting a get-together at your own home?
I try to keep it low key so everyone is comfortable, but I always have candles lit, drinks pre-batched, air turned down to 67, music on, and the lights dimmed!

Finish this sentence. The Revaire, pictured below, is the perfect setting for…
An occasion you want to remember.

What should we save on and splurge on when throwing a party?
Save on centerpieces and splurge on glassware. I love the feeling of a quality glass in my hand!

Most memorable event to have taken place at The Revaire?
The first one, of course!  May 18, 2018 with the Mercury Chamber Orchestra gala is a night I will never forget.

Most memorable musician who has played at an event at The Revaire?
Flo Rida! He was so energetic and a class act!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner — where are we most likely to find you in town?
Breakfast at home, lunch at Bebidas on the patio and Hugo’s for dinner!

First thing you do when you wake up, last thing at night.
I make two non-fat lattes for me and Jason and write three things I’m grateful for in the journal next to the coffee maker. Last thing I do at night is pray for my family’s health.

One thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a decent downhill mountain biker and plan to improve my technical skills this summer riding with other women in Bentonville!

What’s your most memorable birthday celebration ever?
For sure my 40th in Tennessee at Blackberry Mountain with a few of my closest friends.
