Today’s Tidbits Birthday Girl is Kathy Nguyen, Founder of Big Ass Balloons. Each month we celebrate a local business owner on her special day.

Happy birthday, Kathy! How many candles are you blowing out?
How are you celebrating?
Dinner with friends and family at Barcelona Wine Bar.
Speaking of celebrations, you are the founder of Big Ass Balloons. What’s the best part of your job?
Aside from doing arts and crafts for a living, constantly meeting new people and seeing new places.
Tell us about launching Big Ass Balloons.
I graduated from UT Austin in 2009 with the dreams of continuing on to dental school. Then, things took a 180 when I saw these really big balloons in one of the Victoria’s Secret fashion shows. I looked up big balloons on Pinterest and realized we don’t have that around Houston!
Tell us about your brand name.
The name speaks for itself 😉 I like big balloons and cannot lie.
Three tips for hosting an unforgettable event?
Great music, food and drinks.
Favorite new trends in balloons and balloon installations.
Incorporating lots of different textures like floralsstreamersmetallics, etc.
Most memorable or unique event you’ve ever worked on.
Many of our large events are memorable, but we did just drop off a special elephant mosaic to a little boy and when he saw it, he said, “I’m SO HAPPY!” That just melted my heart.
Finish this sentence. Balloons provide…
Happiness and smiles, DUH.
Why do balloons make every celebration better?
They help set the ✨vibe ✨.
Highest numeral for which you ever installed birthday balloons.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner, where are we most likely to find you?
Snooze, Chebahut, Handies Douzo, Clark’s, Katami and Bori.
Three apps you can’t live without in your job.
Asana, HoneyBook, Silhouette Studio
TV series you’re addicted to.
I’m currently in a phase of rewatching my favorite shows like Life in Pieces and Friends.
One thing people would be surprised to learn about you.
I’ve been with my husband for 21 years! Married for 4 of those.
Best vacation you’ve ever taken?
Japan in 2023.
Funniest mishap ever when installing balloons.
Too many but here are some: falling off stages, getting my car towed and falling into bushes.
Dream client or event to work with?
I’m not a “Swiftie,” but if we could be part of the Eras Tour, I would die!
