TidbitsBirthday-2

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANDREA!

Today’s Tidbits Birthday Girl is Andrea Eddleman, owner of Paint Nail Bar. Each month we celebrate a local business owner on her special day.

Happy birthday! How many candles are you blowing out this year?
39.

How are you celebrating?
With my husband and good friends at Baso.

What’s on your birthday wish list?
Some flowers from Frankie + Flora and a massage from Tulum.

You opened the first Houston location of Paint Nail Bar. What inspired you to open a Paint Nail Bar?
I went to a Paint Nail Bar in a different city with a friend and I fell in love. I came back to Houston looking for something similar and couldn’t find anything like Paint. That’s when I decided to take a leap and bring the experience to Houston.

Tell us about your background and career.
Before Paint, I spent the last 13 years in sales and management. I sold wine and spirits for 7 years and then medical device sales for 6. I loved working in medical sales. The product I sold really made a difference in people’s lives. It was very rewarding.

Nail trends for fall that you’re loving?
We’ve been doing a lot of fun spooky nails because our team has very talented artists. But for the non art lovers, a lot are gravitating to dark reds right now. Brown nails and tortoise nails have come back for the second year in a row.

Go-to nail color?
You can never go wrong with milky white or bright red.

What makes Paint Nail Bar different?
We are fume free, nontoxic, and drill free. We try to do what’s healthier for your nails. We are very strict on sanitation and cleanliness. But the best part of Paint is the nail technicians that we find. They are so knowledgeable, passionate, talented, and I love watching our clients build strong friendships with them. It also doesn’t hurt that we serve a different flavored mimosa each month.

Paint will be popping up at the Tidbits Twinkle Market on Sun, Nov 3, with holiday accessories, giftables and complimentary nail art. What are your favorite local brands to shop?
Of course I love Frankie + Flora, Shop 1988 always has fun unique stuff, and I might have to get some custom Texans or Astros jackets from Carla Valencia

If you’re not at work, where are we likely to find you?
With my dogs.

Neighborhood you chose for Paint and why you love it?
I live in the Heights, but when they showed me the Stomping Grounds in Garden Oaks I fell in love with the location. Garden Oaks/Oak Forest is like a small town in the middle of a massive city. How does everyone know each other?! We have so many clients from GOOF and the Heights.

If you had an hour to yourself, what would you do?
Eat some ice cream at Fat Cat or have a drink at High Five.

What is the number one thing we’re doing wrong when trying to paint our nails at home between salon visits?
Using low quality brands, not cleaning the nail properly before painting, and using too much paint. It takes a lot of practice to paint nails perfectly. If everyone was good at painting nails, we wouldn’t need these talented nail technicians. They make it look too easy.

Three apps you can’t live without in your job?
ChatGPT (I ask it about 10 questions a day), Aldi (constant runs for sodas and sparkling wine), Booker by Mindbody.

Most memorable requests for nail art you’ve ever received.
Two come to mind. We have an amazing client who is a science teacher and she wanted art to look like mold growing. It was very cool. Another client gets light pink every visit. She was going to the Formula 1 race and wanted to venture out just this once and she got Ferrari art on every nail for the event. She ended up getting proposed to and the Formula 1 art is in all of her photos.

Personal preference for nail shape?
Almond.

First thing you do when you wake up, last thing at night.
Check our appointments for the day. I constantly check it to ensure everything is correct and try to avoid as many booking mistakes as possible.

One thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I grew up in a small town with only 1500 people.

Best vacation you’ve ever taken.
My husband and I drove across Austria once and that was a pretty amazing trip.

What’s your most memorable birthday celebration ever?
The first thing that came to mind was my Ninja Turtles birthday in 1st grade so I guess that must be the most memorable!
