Sip & Savor

Social Diary

Forks up, frugal foodie. San Diego Restaurant Week starts this Sunday, September 16th, featuring almost 200 of SD's best restos. You can bet your bottom dollar on the nosh spots we've listed that will be serving up gourmet grub at pretty price points.

Lunch $10 @ Bunz Burger Joint
This Hotel Circle hole-in-the-wall seems unassuming, but they're serving up farm-to-table handcrafted burgers (pictured) and all-American shakes. Ten bucks gets you a bucket o' spuds and the best burger between two "bunz". Opt for the South a d'Border, with fresh guac and jalapeno ranch, or try the sauteed 'shrooms and garlic aioli on the All About Garlic burger.

Lunch $15 @ The French Gourmet
If you can't pencil in a flight to Paris, try the next best thing at this Francophile destination. Their special Restaurant Week menu features fancy-pants pate.

Lunch $20 @ Cowboy Star
Saddle up to Cowboy Star for hearty lunchtime chow straight from the range. Start with a soul-warming carrot veloute garnished with marcona almonds, then move to an entree sandwich of beef tongue reuben or barbeque pork cheek.

Dinner $20 @ Buster's Beach House
The best view 20 bucks can buy. Whet your appetite with Jamaican jerk chicken skewers over mango pineapple salsa, then ride the wave with Hawaiian pork luau, cooked in banana leaves.

Dinner $30 @ Analog
Dinner fare includes lobster corndogs, caramelized fennel salmon and braised sterling silver short ribs with potato-parsnip gratin.

Dinner $40 @ Kitchen 1540
Treat your tastebuds to a molecular gastronomy experience beginning with the ominously-titled "Animal" prime tenderloin  and ending with a deconstructed "chocolate milk" dessert composed of fresh berries and chocolate consomme - just like Mom never used to make.
