After a few too many fireball shots on NYE, our resolutions include tipping back quality over quantity. We sat down with Jeret Pena, owner of The Brooklynite, Stay Golden Social House and brand-new craft cocktail bar The Last Word, to find out what his go-to sip is and why you need to make his new bar the vodka to your tonic.
We love the names of your bars. Where do you find your inspiration?
I'm a huge fan of classic cocktails and The Last Word [pictured] is one of my favorite ever. It's made with gin, lime, maraschino and green chartreuse. The Brooklynite is aptly named for its location, Brooklyn Street, and the Brooklynite cocktail, another favorite.
You often host movie and TV nights at your bars. What's your favorite movie?
I prefer watching really silly, crummy, 80s movies like Big Trouble In Little China.
What cocktail is your favorite to make and to drink?
Negroni. Hands down.
What makes The Last Word unique?
Craft cocktails, quickly put together. You can get a drink within 30 seconds - mix, pour, ice, done.
