Cocktails With: Chef Cat Cora

After a delish cooking demo at North Star Mall - part of her role with Macy's Culinary Council - we sat down with chef Cat Cora to ask Iron Chef's only female contestant to dish on the Tex-Mex cuisine she craves and her nominee for the 2014 queen of green...

What's the easiest appetizer a hostess can make to impress her guests in a pinch? A platter of cheeses, olives, crostini, cured meats, nuts, fruits and pepperoncini. That is the very best way to start off the cocktail portion. It can be paired with lovely passed appetizers, as well.

Kale is the go-to green of 2013 - what will be the queen of green in 2014?
Kale will still be reigning as the queen. It is very relevant to diners.

What's your favorite food fix on-the-go?
A quick salad with everything I can find in the fridge. Just toss it all together and eat!

The one item every girl should have in her kitchen?
Sharp knives.

You are Southern born so we want to know - fave Tex-Mex dish?
I love the great salsas, enchiladas, stuffed poblanos and tamales.

Champagne cocktail you'll turn to on New Year's Eve?
I do a Pom Kir Royale with pomegranate juice and champagne.
