Turn Over A New Leaf

No meat Fridays? No problem.

The only Mary in your life lately has consisted of Tabasco, vodka, and celery for good measure. If you're currently working on "no meat Fridays," feel free to check out some of our fave veg options in SA (and substitute the bacon for shrimp).

Adelante: An Alamo Heights institution, pictured, known for its flavorful "health Mex cuisine" and a colorful interior, this fave lunch spot hits the spot every time.

Bliss: An upscale resto and winner of several recent awards, though not purely vegetarian, serves up signature vegetarian and vegan entrees nightly.

The Cove: Consistently written up as one of the best restaurants in San Antonio, their fish tacos are divine and the extensive beer menu is sure to satisfy even the pickiest hops-connoisseur.

La Frite Belgian Bistro: With its multiple-page wine list, this date night spot in Southtown is a perfect place to practice your French while indulging in one of the seven sauces. Our fave: the classic Provencale.

One Lucky Duck: Known for its juice cleanses, this NY transplant serves lasagna and Thai wraps in addition to their salads. Reserve seats in advance for their 5-course prix fixe dinners on Friday nights.

Green Vegetarian Cuisine: Another Pearl Brewery resto, Green has been in San Antonio for almost 10 years and now has a location at Alon Market. 100% kosher, we love the Real Deal Enchiladas with coconut rice for a healthy take on Tex-Mex go-to. The portobello steak is a perfect 'que substitute when "training" for the next 5k.

Pho Sure: Ready to kick back and binge-watch Season 3 of House of Cards? Order one of their many veg options (or multiple sides - no judgment here) with a side of bubble tea and delivery by EAT24.

Whether you're very vegetarian or married to meat, indulge your senses at San Antonio Current's 2nd Annual Flavor Event, this Thursday, March 5.  The food and drink lovers' heaven showcases the top restaurants and bars in SA and features the Whole Foods Market Culinary Showdown.  Raffle tickets will be sold for an opportunity to be a guest judge for the event, proceeds of which will benefit Culinaria.
