Sweet Surrender

Post up at new downtown pastry spot Belgian Sweets.

Ever since that stunning 17-year-old Belgian soccer fan was discovered during a soccer game and got a L'Oreal modeling contract, you've been dreaming about a trip to Brussels.

Take an escape to Belgian Sweets, which opened this past weekend on Houston St., serving old-world Belgian desserts in addition to light entrees like quiche and sandwiches, plus a bevy of coffee drinks. Opt for an authentic "liege" waffle made with special brioche dough, and choose from toppings like whipped cream and strawberries or Speculoos cookie butter. While you check out the 19th century antiques and photos of legendary Bruxelles, pick up a few artisan candies, marzapan, Neuhaus Belgian chocolates, or some sweet ice cream.

Forget the World Cup. Reach for the sugar cup.
