Some Hummus Among Us

A new opening from chef Alon Shaya, recently nominated by the James Beard Foundation.

4213 Magazine St.
New Orleans
While you were Mardi Gras'ing, new doors on Magazine Street were swinging open.
Say hello to Shaya, a contemporary restaurant opened by chef Alon Shaya, recently nominated by the James Beard Foundation for Best Chef: South. In partnership with John Besh, the unique cuisine prettily plated here is modern Israeli infused with locally sourced ingredients and NOLA twists. Open for lunch and dinner, expect small plates like grape leaves and lamb kebabs, delicious hummus served with wood-fired housemade pitas to share, and slow-cooked lamb shanks to round out your experience. Not to be missed is the lush courtyard lined with juniper trees and twinkling lights, as well as decadent desserts like the warm chocolate babka with poppy seeds, tahini and halva ice cream (pictured).
Makes coming down from Fat Tuesday a much lighter fall.
