Happy birthday, Martine! How are you celebrating this year?
Thanks!! It's going to be a super low key dinner with my family this year.

How many candles are you blowing out?

Best part about having a February birthday?
It's very rare to not have my birthday fall in the window of Mardi Gras. I've had some amazing Fat Tuesday birthdays in the French Quarter.

People would be surprised to learn this about me…
My name isn't a family name...my mom got it from the soap opera, Another World. Martine was a character in name only. You never got to see her. It was always someone saying "I'm going to play tennis with Martine" or "I'm going to a ballet class with Martine."

We hear you share a birthday with your daughter, pictured. How will the two of you celebrate together?
Last year we got a giant pink cake together and I thought it was the cutest. I was told this year, "Mommy, I want my own cake." So what's really going on is I just happen to turn 38 on Lorelei's 5th birthday. I see a Frozen theme in my future.

How does social media impact your job?
I am always online. Especially now with the pandemic, it's the most effective way to reach the gallery audience. I'm having more fun with it now. The key for me is just showing my life through the gallery lens. I live where I work. My kids play where I work. There's really no divide for me.

What plans do you have for your gallery in the coming year?
We have some fantastic exhibitions coming up (by appointment only) that I'm thrilled about. Particularly Elizabeth Chapin's solo exhibition, The Banishment of Solitude, opening March 6.

Newest art acquisition in your personal collection?
Photographer Adrien Broom did an incredible photo session in the gallery where she built a magical set in the space. It was wild walking into the ballroom and there were gigantic flowers and grass! It was the most amazing experience and now I have these gorgeous dreamy family portraits to cherish. She comes to New Orleans every October to build these elaborate sets for her portrait sessions.
