New Orleans' Songbird Lets A New Album Fly

Be among the first to get your pretty paws on the new Robin Barnes jazz EP "Songbird Sessions," released today on iTunes.

Did you hear that? It's the sound of Songbird Sessions, the brand new jazz EP from the seriously sweet and uber talented Robin Barnes dropping on iTunes TODAY. On the brink of her big launch party at Peaches Records TOMORROW, Saturday, August 27, and with the added excitement of her new weekly Thursday set at the House of Blues Foundation Room, we sat down for a chit chat to find out how the multi-talented local siren stays so fit, who's on her personal playlist and which iconic setting in the Crescent City would be her dream performance location...

You're dropping your first album - amazing! What one line from one of your songs has a special meaning for you?
"When you're down and out, lift up your head and shout...it's going to be a great day!" - Great Day

You lead a super healthy lifestyle. What are your NOLA cravings and vices?
I am soooo obsessed with fried green tea ice cream from Sake Cafe. Who wouldn't want an ice cream coated with cake batter then fried?! Definitely can't go wrong with mango sticky rice from La Thai.

How do you keep your bod in shape for the stage?
Diet and LOTS of water. I run with my Move Ya Brass running group (every Monday at 6 p.m. we meet in front of NOMA) and do cardio classes with my Move Ya Brass krewe called Bounce Ya Brass at Crescent Park on Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m.

Who is currently on repeat on your personal playlist?
Emily King - her song Distance is a new favorite of mine. Also Irma Thomas' Classic's Ruler of My Heart by Allen Toussaint. I've been doing my homework and listening to all Allen Toussaint records. You have to know your history before you go forth and make history.

Any venue in NOLA where you'd love to perform but have yet to?
I'd love to perform at the Orpheum for a big show. I've always thought I'd be so cool to perform there with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

You just got engaged - congrats! Do you and your beau have a song?
Can't Help Falling in Love With You by Elvis Presley

Describe your perfect fashion statement for a performance.
Black with a big pop of color. I always try to wear fun bold colored feathers, whether a headdress or feather clip piece.

How do you unwind after a big show?
I Netflix and chill (no joke). I always have to do some yoga to unwind because after performing I'm full of energy.

Have you had a major OMG moment when meeting a celeb musician?
When I met Garrett Hedlund, I thought he was just a fan and looked familiar. I asked if he was local and then he asked me if I had seen a few movies like Four Brothers, Pan, Tron, etc. I was like OMG I thought the dude from Tron was SOOOOO cute. He was like yeahhh, that's me! I about died from blushing.

Celebrate the release of Songbird Sessions at Robin's Album Release Party TOMORROW, Saturday, August 27, from 2 - 4 p.m. at the brand new Uptown location of Peaches Records. Hear the EP live in its entirety, enjoy a free Cathead Vodka cocktail and pick up a copy of her album.
