Tall, Dark and Hand-tied

They’re masculine, mysterious and we all have at least one in our life. Whether a father, friend, or “It’s complicated,” he’s always problematic when it comes to gifts.
Ponder no more this Father’s Day—Otis James, the handsome designer who once interned at local high-end clothier Levy’s, handmakes one-of-a-kind neckties using textiles from sophisticated silk and wool. An apropos ode, the trendsetter crafted his first tie as a Father’s Day gift back in the day, and his honed-in skills have taken him from a one bedroom apartment-slash-workshop to a hip atelier in Marathon Village. We scored a Q&A with the clothier to get his take on neckties, dapper dads and living in Music City.
They may still be from Mars, but now you’ve mapped out part of the man-sized mystery.
