The Today Show's Jenna Bush Hager's Resolutions

We asked stylish author Jenna Bush Hager of lifestyle blog The Novo Project, also a Today show correspondent and recently named Editor At Large of Southern Living, to look ahead to 2013.

TIDBITS: Fill in the blank for your 2013 resolutions. Live life more like:
My mother and grandmother. As I prepare for the most important role of my life—motherhood--I am looking to the women who raised me. My mother and grandmothers have been such a calming constant in my life. They have paved the way for me to live showing kindness and compassion to others. My mother’s wise piece of advice always guides me, especially as I balance the chaos of a dynamic life: “Nothing in life is worth incessant worrying. With hard work, and living your life for others, everything will work out.”

Read words by:
EVERYONE! I read often: newspapers, and research for my work with NBC; and I read a novel a week to keep me sane as I travel. I am excited to read Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt. In her literary debut, Brunt writes a story based in 1987, a country shocked by the AIDS epidemic. It is a story of love, and loss and unexpected friendship.

Spend peaceful mornings:
Peaceful morning, what? I am typically up, and at work super early at NBC. But, I do want to start to take advantage of my days off and really capture the quiet of morning. When Mia [Baxter, co-creator of The Novo Project] and I lived in Panama, I treasured our mornings. We both were participating in The Artist Way and wrote in our journals daily. I haven’t had, or found the time to write since I moved to New York. One of my major goals for 2013 is writing.

Do more of?
Spend time laughing with friends, old and new. And let those I love know every day how grateful I am for them.

Looking forward to most:
This is an easy one for me. In 2013, I will be bringing a precious babe into this world. We couldn’t be more excited!
