Cocktails With Lululemon’s Lead Designer

Tidbits recently chatted with lululemon’s Lead Accessory Designer Katie Douglas to find out how her research on local fitness cultures influences the famous lifestyle brand.

From glittery one-shoulder dresses to the perfect-fitting pants for executing an extended downward dog, the best designers do their homework. Tidbits recently chatted with lululemon’s Lead Accessory Designer Katie Douglas to find out how her research on local fitness cultures influences the famous lifestyle brand.

What are your personal must-have fitness pieces?
A killer pair of sneakers and bright wunder unders. Probably blue - I'm obsessed. There's a color blocked pair in store right now that are black on the back and bold blue on the front. I've already bought solid bold blue and I'm literally exercising super-human self control to not run out and buy them anyway.

Lululemon offers some of our favorite products, but the company culture seems pleasantly infectious. Do they allow you to be creative as a designer?
It’s really great because we’re a people company and we make products. Our first focus is our people – we’re all about having a well-rounded life.

Any fashion trends you've noticed during your US visit?
The biggest thing I’ll take back is color. Vancouver [where lululemon is headquartered] is a bit earthier, conservative and flannel.

Current favorite trend?
This season is all about... cozy layering. Bags, scarves and puffy jackets are definitely hot this season.
