Even your pickiest friend will be impressed by the perfect drinks at brand new Tongue-Cut Sparrow. The tiny, beautiful cocktail bar is a unique-for-Houston experience, and here are 11 things you need to know before going.

1. Access the upstairs cocktail lounge via a discreet door at the rear of Pastry War's bar. A host will meet you at the staircase.

2. The 25-seat cocktail bar was conceived by Bobby Heugel of Anvil fame and is inspired by his global travels - particularly by elegant cocktail bars in Tokyo.

3. Tongue-Cut sparrow is the title of a traditional Japanese fable.

4. Half the bar is reserved for reservations; the other half is open to walk-ins. Call or text 713.321.8242 for reservations.

5. There are just 15 cocktails on the menu - some classics like a martini, gimlet, French 75, Sazerac - others unique to this concept. A petite selection of wine, beer and champagne is available.

6. Cocktails are served in ice-cold frozen glasses - some with old school, oversized ice cubes. Metal straws and other traditional cocktail tools are part of the presentation.

7. Bar snacks are complimentary; there is no food menu.

8. The playlist is exclusively jazz in an atmosphere that's upscale but cozy: fireplace, exposed brick, leather Chesterfield sofas.

9. There is no website yet. See the menu here.

10. You'll end your night when your bill arrives with candy, pictured below.

11. While the obsession here is top-notch service and high-end ingredients, the prices are commiserate to a typical restaurant: $12 for cocktails, $6 for beer.
