Lululemon Opens "Houston Heights Local"

7 things to know about Houston Heights Local, lululemon's neighborhood-first retail concept now open in Heights Mercantile.

713 Heights Boulevard

1. With similar concepts in Philadelphia, Toronto and Montreal - where it's called Le Local - this is the brand's first The Local concept in the Southern U.S.

2. The store is housed in a craftsman bungalow built in 1925 and purchased out of a Sears Roebuck catalogue. The developers behind Heights Mercantile preserved the exterior architecture - inside it's sleek and modern.

3. Near an adorable Smeg frig, there's a communal work table where guests are encouraged to bring coffee, lunch or their laptop.

4. The staff works with area artists, craftsmen and artisans to bring local items and art to the space, but it's a traditional store with the full merchandise line. Above the racks you'll spot candles that spell out "Heights" and a flag emblazoned with HTX.

5. With community events in mind, there's a fireplace to gather around and a trellis out back.

6. Tonight, the store kicks off The Artist Series, toasting local artist Alexandria Wallace (her work can be spotted elsewhere in the Heights at spots like Sojourn). Her work, pictured above, has decorated the space since it opened and is available for purchase alongside lycra pants and hoodies. (Event details below.)

7. Check out the shop's street address. How local is that?
