Happy Birthday, Liz Anders!

This month's birthday girl is art advisor and appraiser Liz Anders, who helps private clients make art acquisitions.

Happy birthday! We're bringing you a Crave cupcake to celebrate. What's your favorite flavor?
Italian cream!

You worked at Christie's in New York before eventually starting your own firm. How did you know this was your calling?
After I interned at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in high school, I knew I wanted to work in the art world. In college, I read an article about Thea Westreich, a well known art advisor in New York who cultivates private art collections for individuals and I decided early on that’s what I wanted to do.

Best part of your job?
Finding the perfect piece of art for a client and knowing the joy it brings them.

Are you yourself artistic?
I always loved making things – art, drawing, photography – and studied art history in college and grad school.

What was one of the first major pieces of art you bought yourself?
A watercolor by Hana Hillerova.

Favorite American contemporary artists?
Kelly O’Connor, Adam Fuss, Matthew Brandt, Marie Watt.

Houston artists we should be watching?
Natasha Bowdoin, Dario Robleto and Jonathan Leach.

Local under the radar art space we should all visit at least once?
Rice Gallery hosts national and international installation artists several times a year to create large scale site specific installations – it is tucked away in the middle of Rice’s campus and some of the most amazing artists have shown there over the past 10 years.

You office in Southampton. Favorite neighborhood spot?
Coppa for rosé, burrata and prosciutto!

Where do you always take your visitors?
The Menil Collection and Houston Center for Photography – two of my favorite places!

Best under the radar place to shop in Houston?
Reeves Antiques for great mid-century modern design, art and furniture.

Go-to outfit.
For daytime, Lizzie Fortunato earrings, skinny jeans, a black top and Chanel flats.

Beauty product you can’t live without?
Bardot eyeliner from Houston’s Façade - the owner Corinne created her own makeup line and I’ve used her products for over 10 years!

Where can we find you if not working?
At the park with my kids or looking for treasures at estate sales!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Chinese dumplings, sour candy and buying art.

Who is your style icon?
Lauren Santo Domingo has amazing style.

How many candles are you blowing out this year?
37! Officially in my late 30s…

#1 thing people do wrong when placing art in their home?
Hanging art too high!
