Hoof Line and Sinker

Local photographer Randal Ford publishes an art book with Rizzoli.

You have more pictures of your dog on your phone than friends and loved ones combined.
When it comes to animals that bark, purr, growl and moo, local photographer Randal Ford gets the right shot. You've seen his work on Texas Monthly covers—now he's published his first book with Rizzoli, The Animal Kingdom: A Collection of Portraits. He commandeered hundreds of animals in-studio—ranging from Bevo and several other longhorns to a beastly tiger, a camel named Juan Carlos, a chimp, a baby llama, black roosters and a pink mohawked cockatoo. Traveling across Texas and beyond, he captured the wildlife in portrait lighting that's usually reserved for celebs in a magazine spread.
Judge this hook 'em by the cover.

Love photography? Hear Randal discuss his new book when revered portrait photographer Dan Winters moderates a Q&A and book signing tomorrow, Wed, Oct 17, at ACC Northridge Campus Auditorium.
