Happy Birthday, Nicole!

This month's Birthday Girl is Nicole Boncutter, who owns Benjamin Beau Salon with her husband Beau. 

How long have you been a stylist?
This is a big year for me, as I've celebrated my first full 10 years in my industry. I knew I wanted to do this ever since judging chunky unblended bangs at the ripe age of 15.

You always have a fantastic look. Tell us about your current hair.
A half-and-half two-toned red and black situation that I get to blame my many moods on, ha! I've always been one to stand out - it attracts the right type of attention for the job that I have. There hasn't been a haircut that I haven't had... bobs, pixie, long, short, even the flock of seagulls spike in the back, slick in the front. I've experimented!

Most memorable cut so far? 
Platinum freaking blonde faux hawk... I am so Italian, and have such black eyebrows.... I have no business having platinum hair!

Biggest mistake women make when choosing a style.
Not covering up the face of the person they're seeing it on - sometimes the beauty of the face and the way it complements that person distracts us from the way we see things and relate it to ourselves.

Has social media changed your industry?
ENTIRELY. Someone can find my work with one click on a hashtag. It has built personal connections faster. People get to see results and consistent work and know that is exactly what they're going to walk out with, rather than having to gamble.

Hair product you swear by.
Marula oil! My hair hasn't been as long and healthy as it is now since I was 7 years old.

What's your favorite place in Austin to shop?
Parts & Labour for jewelry and gifts - I love to support local artists as often as possible.

Best cocktails?
VOX Table for brunch - the drinks are as good as their names!

What helps you relax?
A 90-minute massage from Niye at Viva Day Spa... every 4 weeks.

What’s the “best deal” in town?
$1 Rosé Tuesdays at Central Market.

What's your daily uniform?
Black, black and more black.

Where can we find you if not working?
True Food Kitchen... they should offer me a job with how often I eat there.

How many candles are you blowing out?
I am turning 30 years old.... and this will be an emotional one not because of aging... but because of how proud I am and I get to reflect of all of my accomplishments from 20-29 and plan my next decade of destruction.

Tell us something random about yourself.
I have been vegetarian for 15 years and never tell any of my clients about it.
